Description
PETER FOESTERS
“I have been fascinated by the work of Andy Warhol since my youth. I love the simplicity of his work, and I also find his use of color phenomenal. So I try to integrate that into my own work as well. I have been looking for a long time for depth in my work.
I tried out several materials, but I never had a satisfying feeling about them. With polystyrene, however, I can translate my ideas onto canvas. That extra dimension gives a totally different image of a city view. As I see it.”
The Motivation
I try not to repeat myself by constantly adding something. I’m actually never satisfied with completing work; I’m usually already thinking about the next one. That can be frustrating at times, but it does help me keep an open mind. For me, a good idea is more important than the “perfect” execution.
My favorite quote is from Dali(of whom I am not really a fan) “Have no fear of perfection; you never reach it.”
The Inspiration
I get my inspiration from lyrics of 80’s bands like Joy Division and The The. A song title brings an image into my head that I try to integrate into my work. The architecture of modern buildings is also a source of inspiration. Artists such as Hockney, Warhol, Klein, Rosenquist, and Basquiat had a strong impact and influence on my work.
Future.
After a series of smaller works, I would like to return to larger ones. To add more depth by using thicker materials. I see my own work as fairly simple, but I think that is its strength. “Less is more.”
