In The People of the Forest, award-winning photographer Mark Edward Harris focuses on orangutans because the future for many species is uncertain; orangutans in the wild are hanging on by a particularly thin vine. Their populations have declined significantly due to habitat destruction in their native Sumatra and Borneo, where forests give way to palm oil plantations. Long before genetic testing revealed an almost 97 percent DNA overlap between orangutans and humans, the similarities between the two species were noticed. “Orangutan” comes from the Malay word orang (people) and hutan (forest), hence the title of this book.

Mark Edward Harris
Assignments have taken award-winning photographer Mark Edward Harris to more than 100 countries on all seven continents. Among his numerous accolades are CLIO, ACE, Impact DOCS Award of Excellence, Aurora Gold, Sports Photographer of the Year Gold Award, New York Book Show Book of the Year, and IPA awards. His books include Faces of the Twentieth Century: Master Photographers and Their Work, The Way of the Japanese Bath, Wanderlust, North Korea, South Korea, Inside Iran, The Travel Photo Essay: Describing A Journey Through Images and his latest, The People of the Forest, a book about orangutans.

We want you to enjoy your new art, so if a piece doesn't quite work in your space, return it within seven days of receiving your order, and we'll issue you a refund for the price of the art. Art must be returned in its original packaging with the certification of authenticity. You are responsible for the cost of return shipping and any customs and brokerage fees charged upon return.
